JUST CULTURE is a safety culture approach in which the ‘why’ question is more important than the question of guilt. Mistakes are made everywhere in organizations. The question is how do we deal with that? Opposite to blame culture (and thus fear), the core of JUST CULTURE lies in learning and prevention. Daring to admit mistakes, to focus on the ‘why’ question as maybe the fault lies somewhere in the system (organization), to improve and prevent from the same type of incident in the future. This is in contrast to the traditional blaming and punishing, which leads to concealment, repetition or worse.
